All GMAT Advanced students are required to have scored a 600+ on a past GMAT exam, Kaplan GMAT practice test, or diagnostic test. Students providing a previous GMAT test score or Kaplan GMAT practice test score as their score qualification, must do so before their course start date. Students using their diagnostic test as a score qualifier, must take their test before their first class.

Note: Students who use the diagnostic test as a score qualifier and do not get a 600+ on the diagnostic, are no longer eligible for GMAT Advanced. They will be contacted and asked to switch into a regular GMAT course whose schedule is the same as their Advanced course.

Test Overview

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a standardized test used by business schools to measure academic ability. In fact, data has shown that GMAT scores are consistently good, though imperfect, predictors of academic success in the first year of business school.

The exam measures general verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills. It does not test business competence nor specific subject knowledge.

The GMAT features verbal and math multiple-choice sections, plus two 30-minute essays. The GMAT is given as a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) in most parts of the world.

A high score on the GMAT will increase the likelihood of getting into the business school program of your choice. More than 250,000 people take the GMAT each year, so it is important for you to do well and stand out from the other candidates.

Test Scores

Test Scores

GMAT scores are valid for 5 years. You will receive four scores:

  • An overall score, ranging from 200 to 800
  • A math subscore, ranging from 0 to 60
  • A verbal subscore, ranging from 0 to 60
  • A score for the Analytical Writing Assessment, ranging from 0 to 6
Percentile Rank

Each of the scores is accompanied by a percentile rank, which highlights the proportion of test takers who scored lower than you on the test. For example, if you received a percentile rank of 56, you did better than 56 percent of test takers.

The Essay

Each essay is given a separate grade on a 0-6 scale by two different graders - a human and a computer called the "e-rater". These grades are assigned holistically, taking into account all aspects of content, writing style, and grammar.

Register for the Test

Registering for the GMAT is straightforward and done online. The fee to take the exam is $250, plus any applicable taxes for the country in which you sit the test.

You should register and pay online with the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) at www.mba.com. GMAC takes most major credit cards.
