Course Structure & Materials

Completing Your Pre-Course Work

If you're an internationally trained nurse, we advise that you begin the pre-course work between 4 and 6 weeks before starting the course. We suggest this for two reasons. First, as your lessons will focus on critical thinking skills, you’ll want to ensure you have examined all the nursing content that is going to be examined on the NCLEX exam. Secondly, we recommend that you utilise this period to get comfortable with the academic-style English that is used on the exam.

Course Structure

Your Anywhere course will start with a diagnostic test, which will determine your strengths and weaknesses. This will help you to produce a tailored study program.

You will have timetabled class times to attend through the online virtual classroom. You will also use the practice tests, Question Trainer and QBank during the course to evaluate your progress. You will have access to these online resources for 4 months.

Course Materials

  • Question Trainer - with access to over 1,000 questions divided into seven practice tests
  • 4 months of online access - including a Test-Taking Workshop and Strategy Seminar, orientation video, frequently tested nursing content and access to video-streamed review of class questions

About the Test

Test Overview

The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN exam) determines if it's safe for you to practice as an entry-level nurse in America. It's considerably different from other tests you would have taken at nursing school. The NCLEX-RN exam, isn't knowledge based, instead it is application based. The test will examine how you use critical thinking skills to make nursing judgments.

The framework of the NCLEX-RN exam is based on 'Meeting Client Needs'. You'll get four main categories on the exam as well as eight subcategories. You will be expected to integrate medical, surgical, pediatric, psychiatric and obstetric nursing content during the exam.

Test Format - The CAT

CAT (computer adaptive test) is a testing format that adapts based upon your answers to the questions.

The first question you encounter will be fairly easy. If you choose the right answer, the test adapts and gives you a more challenging question. If you choose the wrong answer, you will be asked a slightly easier question. The computer does this throughout the test until it is able to determine your competence level.

Test Scores

Once you've taken your NCLEX-RN exam you will receive a pass or fail. You will not receive a numerical result.

2-4 weeks after you have taken the exam you will be notified by your individual state board of nursing of your result.

How to Register

To register for the NCLEX-RN® exam you need to submit an application to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).

You can get in touch with the NCSBN through their website. This will give you the contact information of the state you wish to work in and the individual procedures each State Board requires you to follow.

Some states have combined registration for the NCLEX-RN® exam. In other states, you need to apply for a license with the individual State Board of Nursing, in the state where you wish to become licensed. After you have applied, you'll get a Candidate Bulletin to register for the NCLEX-RN® exam.

You have to register through the individual state boards to receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) - the document you will need to register for the NCLEX-RN® exam. You send this with your test application to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

Register outside the US by calling 001-952-681-3815.
